Chambers Europe 2012
"This team attracts clients from the fashion, media and
technology sectors. It wins warm praise for its pragmatic advice
and approachable lawyers. The group acted in a trade mark dispute
between Mexx and WE over the use of personal pronouns as trade
marks. The lawyers have also advised Endemol and Fremantle on the
use of TV formats."
Sources say:
"Their strength lies in their ability to gather know-how and
then explain it to a judge in a way he or she can absorb
it."
Key individuals:
Alfred Meijboom leads the IP department, and recently handled cases
for Nike and C&A.
Intellectual Property
Kennedy Van der Laan's intellectual property practice has
grown steadily over the years from one originally focused on the
copyright protection of information technology to a full-range IP
practice. Our attorneys have broad expertise and experience in
developing strategies for protection and defense of trade marks,
designs, domain names, database rights, merchandise, patents and
trade secrets. The IP practice is focused on commercial
exploitation of intellectual property rights by means of licensing
and transfer of rights, the development of new IP through research
and development agreements as well as on litigation of infringement
claims, anti-piracy and counterfeiting.
Clients of the IP practice come from a range of market sectors
including
IT,
telecommunications,
biotechnology/life sciences, sports,
consumer goods, publishing,
media, and
financial institutions. The commercial exploitation of
intellectual property is intersected by the restraints of
EU and competition/antitrust law and regulation. Our
intellectual property attorneys work closely with the
corporate transaction practice where IP is frequently the key
asset to a deal.
