Maarten Schut

Maarten Schut took degrees in both liberal arts and Dutch law at the University of Utrecht, and an LL.M. in European law at the University of Cambridge.

After his studies he worked for some time as a journalist for one of the Dutch public channels. Then, he began the RAIO-program, a multi-year work and training program to become a district court judge. He received a rigorous training in civil and criminal law, and worked as a public prosecutor and a judge before joining Kennedy Van der Laan at the end of 2000.

Maarten has worked in the field of intellectual property since then, with a focus on the exploitation and protection of technology (in particular biotechnology) and trademark law. Maarten is an experienced litigator. He regularly teaches both legal practitioners and others (such as scientists, journalists, and publishers) in aspects of intellectual property law, and is editor of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Law (JFR).
