AMSTERDAM, 8 January 2010 - Kennedy Van der Laan has appointed
Jens van den Brink, Hester de Vries and Jan Schouten as partners as
of 1 January 2010. Jens van den Brink (35) specializes in
intellectual property law and press law and focuses on working for
the media; Hester de Vries (46) is a specialist in the field of
privacy and the protection of personal data; and Jan Schouten (39)
is an expert in the field of notarial corporate law.
Joost Linnemann, managing partner of Kennedy Van der Laan, is

Jens van den Brink studied law at the University of Amsterdam,
Columbia University (NY) and King's College London. He is a
member of the Intellectual Property and Media Law Practice Group.
Jens specializes in working for the media and his clients include
publishers, newspapers, broadcasting corporations, TV producers and
internet media. This means a focus on defamation, copyright, image
rights and internet-related issues. Additionally, he handles many
trademark cases. He is a (guest) lecturer in intellectual property
law and press law at the Media
Academy and the School for Journalism (Utrecht) and guest lecturer
of internet law at the VU University Amsterdam.
Jens is co-author of the International Libel & Privacy Handbook
(Bloomberg, 2009),
the Chronicle Media Law 2006-2009 (Mediaforum, 2009) and is chief
editor of the media law blog Media Report.
Hester de Vries studied law in Amsterdam and obtained her
doctorate on the legal aspects of home telematics in 1993 at VU
University Amsterdam. After that, Hester worked as a researcher at
the University of Amsterdam and as senior policy officer at the
Data Protection Commission (College Bescherming Persoonsgegevens).
Hester joined Kennedy Van der Laan as an attorney in 2000. She is a
specialist in the field of privacy and the protection of personal
data. Hester advises businesses on various aspects of privacy law,
such as e-marketing, personal data transfer, personnel tracking
systems etcetera. She is involved in projects such as the public
transport chip card, the smart energy meter and the electronic
patient record.
Hester became an associate partner in 2008. She is chairwoman of
the Privacy Law Association and member of the editorial staff of
the journals Privacy & Informatie and Computerrecht and of
Kluwer's On-line Module Privacy. Hester is also a lecturer at
the Computer Law Institute of VU University Amsterdam.
Jan Schouten studied comparative private law at the Università
degli Studi di Pavia in Italy and notarial law at Leiden
University. He joined Kennedy Van der Laan as a junior civil-law
notary in 2006. Jan brought along ten years of experience in
notarial corporate law. In his practice he advises Dutch and
foreign companies and banks with regard to cross-border
reorganizations, acquisitions, investments, joint ventures,
securities, shareholder structures and corporate governance. Jan is
a member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce for the Netherlands and
mans the Italian desk of Kennedy Van der Laan.
